Opener 2-1 over OLA

The Lady Tide opened their 2006 Fast Pitch season with a 2-1
victory over Our Lady Academy.
Junior Kasey Mitchell recorded 8 strikeouts, 2 walks, and allowed
only two hits. OLA recorded their two hits and were aided by a
passed ball to score their only run
of the game in the 1st inning.
With their backs against the wall, the Lady Tide responded as
senior Allison "Dink" Bynum drew a base on balls and eventually
moved to third base on a wild pitch. Bynum scored with Mitchell
at the plate attempting to lay down
a bunt.
Tara Dunn then drew a base on balls, stole second base, and
advanced to third on a sac bunt by freshman Tiffany Reed. With
the game tied at 1-1, 7th grader Hillary Dickens laid down a
near-perfect squeeze bunt, but it ended up just barely in foul
territory. The next pitch to Dickens was low and in the dirt
allowing Dunn to race home scoring
the winning run.
Weathering permitting, Picayune (1-0) was scheduled to play
Lawrence County at 2:00pm at PRCC complex in Poplarville.
