2009 Picayune Swim Team

South State Oct 17th
The Maroon Tide Boys and Girls Swim team competed in the South State Championship swim meet in Laurel .
The Girls team finished 5th overall scoring 171 points, only 15 points behind West Jones (the only 5A school
to beat them). Leading the girls team and Finishing South State Champion runner up was Erin Moran in
the 100 yard Freestyle and a 5 th place in the 200 free. Other top 8 finishers were Natalie Hutchison 5th ,
and 8th , Lauren Moran 8 th , DaNelle Williams 8th , and their relays finished 8th and 5th . This is the
highest place finish for the girls in the last three years.
The boys team placed 3rd behind 6A Saint Stanislaus and 6A Oak Grove. Leading the way for the boys team
was Blake Rutherford winning South State Champion in the 100 yard Freestyle and Runner up in the 100
Yard Butterfly. Jared Bates and Bryce Warden went 2 nd and 3 rd in the breastroke in the pursuit of
the championship . Top 8 finishers for the boys were Donald Williams 5th; Bryce Warden 7th;
Jared Bates 7th ; Nicoli Hutchison 6th and 7th, and the three Relays went 3rd , 3rd , and 2nd .
State Oct 24th:
The Maroon Tide swim team competed in the MSHSAA State Championship Swim meet on Oct 24. The
boys finished 8th and the girls finished 16th out of 43 teams. Blake Rutherford, Jared Bates, Donald Williams,
and Bryce Warden brought home the Bronze Medal in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay.
Rutherford also had the highest individual event placing taking 4th overall in the 50 yard freestyle.
Erin Moran had the highest placing for the girls’ team, finishing 11th and 12th in her individual events.
This is the first time the TIDE has medaled in an Event since their 2006 State Championship.
