Lady Tide blanks Purvis 8-0 in season opener

by Carey Meitzler

Purvis--The Picayune Lady Tide did something very unusual for slow pitch softball in their lid-lifter for the 2008

season as they were able to hang a zero on their opponents in posting a 8-0 win over the homestanding Purvis

Lady 'Naders.

Picayune pushed across three runs in the third inning.  Kent doubled to the left field corner to

start the inning.  One out later, Brooke Meitzler and Jessica Rancifer both walked to load the bases.

Brandi Rabion singled to left scoring Kent and Meitzler with Rancifer moving to third and Rabion to

second on the throw to the plate trying to retire Meitzler.  Hillary Dickens singled to score Rancifer,

but Rabion was thrown out at home.  That's all the runs the Lady Tide would need.

With freshman Sarah "Sis" Dodd in the pitching circle, Picayune turned away Purvis numerous

times behind solid play from senior left-fielder Katie Kent, junior short-fielder Taylor Seals, and

freshman shortstop Tiffany Devore.  Kent and Seals each had running catches to thwart the

Lady 'Naders while Devore handled every chance hit her way in both the air and on the ground.

6:00pm and Varsity set for 7:00pm.
