By Carey Meitzler

Picayune-- Speed, timely hitting, and defense enabled Lawrence County to defeat Picayune by scores of 4-0 and 10-4.  The wins will give the Lady Cougars a chance to play for the South State Championship while the youthful Lady Tide's season ends with an impressive 19-9 record.

Lawrence County scored a run in the second, fifth, and two in the sixth to take Game 1 by a 4-0 score.  Shania Starks, the Lady Cougar's speed left centerfielder  hit safely in all four at bats, scored a run, drove in two, and teamed with left fielder Tyra Griffin in to catch anything that hung in the air very long.  Shortstop Dee Dee Walker was flawless handling nine chances in the game. First baseman Shelby Mitchell drove in the other two runs.
