Lady Tide makes "HISTORY" with overtime playoff win
by Tina Howard
The Lady Tide made Picayune soccer history on Tuesday night by winning the first playoff game in the history of any Picayune High school soccer team as they came away with an 3-2 overtime at South Jones.
South Jones struck first to go on top 1-0. Picayune answered the Lady Braves goal just a minute later when freshman Ana Lee tied the game.
South Jones came back to score on a penalty kick to make it 2-1 at the half.
With less than 1 minute left in regulation time, junior Breeana Fortenberry tied the score on a left-footed shot to the opposite corner of the goal to force overtime.
At the end of overtime the game was still tied 2-2 and the game went into a second overtime.
With less than a minute left in sudden death, Fortenberry struck again to give the Lady Tide
for the historic 3-2 win.
The Lady Tide will play Florence on Saturday with the site to be determined. Florence upset Gautier in overtime 2-1 to advance.
