Maroon Tide sinks Admirals 37-7

Gulfport--Picayune jumped out to 23-0 halftime lead and added two second half touchdowns to post a 37-7

win over the Gulfport Admirals at Joseph L. Milner Stadium.


Picayune's first touchdown came after Gulfport fumbled a Maroon Tide punt at the Admiral 6 yard line. Shaun

Anderson scored one play later with 1:32 left in the first quarter.  The point after was wide left.

After the Tide defense forced an Admiral punt on the next possession, Picayune moved down the field

in just 4 plays with Anderson busting up the middle for a 32 yard touchdown run on a trap play with

11:10 left in the second quarter.  Sami Nagi's extra point made it 13-0.


Ronald Polk got the ball back for Picayune with an interception at the Picayune 35 and returned it to

the Gulfport 30.  Jaurice Travis bulled his way in on the third snap of the possession from 17 yards

out and Nagi kicked the point after for a 20-0 lead with 9:10 left in the half.


Once again the Picayune defense forced a three and out.  The Admiral punt gave the Maroon Tide

the ball at their own 37.   Picayune moved the ball to the Gulfport 7 before settling for Sami Nagi

24 yard field goal with :58 left.


Picayune scored on the first possession of the third quarter with a 10 play 75 yard drive with

Anderson plunging in from 1 yard out and Nagi's point after made it 30-0 with 5:55 left in the

third quarter.

Tyler Penton hooked up with V.J. Holt for a 22 yard touchdown pass to close out the Maroon

Tide scoring with 7:49 left in game.  The touchdown culminated a 9 play 80 yard drive that took

five minutes and seven seconds off the clock.


Gulfport scored their points on a 5 yard pass from Dawson Malley to Jalen Knight with :13 left.


Picayune rushed for 275 yards on 42 rushes and Penton completed 3 of 6 passes for 69 yards.


Picayune (3-1) will have an open week before opening region play at Wayne County on Sept 22nd.
