Yellowjackets sting Maroon Tide 63-28

Ocean Springs- The St. Martin Yellowjackets stayed unbeaten on the season with a 63-28 win
over Picayune at at Joe Barlow Stadium behind the running and passing of of Tyler Polk and
After Picayune was three and out on the first possession of the game, St Martin scored in 6 plays
covering 55 yards with Polk scampering end from 16 yards out. Sean Gomez kicked the extra point
for a 7-0 lead with 7:11 left.
After another three and out by the Maroon Tide, St Martin went 44 yards in 4 plays with Overman
scoring from 1 yard out with 4:38 left in the first quarter. A bad snap resulted in a missed PAT attempt.
Trailing 13-0, Picayune got back in the game quickly when junior Josh Littles busted loose for a 77
yard with 4:18 left in the quarter. Jackson Samples point after made it 13-7.
Picayune's defense came up big on the Yellowjackets first play after the kickoff when sophomore
Brian Taylor jumped on a fumble at the St Martin 36. Picayune took 8 plays to score with Littles
slashing in from 2 yards out and Samples' extra point put the Maroon Tide on top 14-13 with :23 left
in the first quarter.
St Martin responded on its next possession going 66 yards in 6 plays with Overman connecting with
Kaleb Reddix on a 9 yard pass play. They converted the 2 point conversion to lead 21-14 with 6:08
left in the second quarter.
Picayune responded with a 15 play 80 yard drive using 7 minutes off the clock resulting in a 3 yard TD
run by Littles. Samples tied the game at 21-21 with his point after with 3:06 left.
St Martin scored the last points of the first half on a 65 yard run by Polk with 2:28 left to make 28-21
after the Gomez' point after.
Picayune got a huge break to start the second half when senior Trey Winbrow recovered a fumble
at the St Martin 45. Picayune converted a first down and appeared to have converted a second
one at the St Martin 22 on a third down run, but a penalty negated the play and the Maroon Tide
would turn the ball over on downs after failing to get the first down on the next two plays.
St Martin scored on a 35 yard run by Polk on the next possession and after a Picayune punt, they
scored again on a 6 yard run by Javon McGee to lead 42-21 with 1:36 left in the third quarter.
Littles scored his fourth touchdown of the game on the next possession on a 44 yard run with 11:49
left in the game.
St Martin added three touchdowns with Polk scoring on runs of 28 yards (7:32 left) and 27 yards (5:26)
and McGee getting his second TD on a 8 yard run.
Littles had 251 yards on 34 carries to lead Picayune. Polk had 280 yards on 18 carries while Overman
ran for 94 yards on 13 carries. Overman completed 13 of 15 passes for 196 yards.
Picayune (0-2) travels to Gulfport on Friday.
