Picayune thrashes West Harrison 55-12

by Carey Meitzler

Picayune--The Maroon Tide spotted the West Harrison Hurricanes a defensive touchdown in the first

90 seconds, but that's about all that didn't go Picayune's way as they notched a 55-12 victory at

Riser Medial Associates Field at Tide Stadium on homecoming night.

Demarius Allen scooped up a Josh Littles fumble and raced 65 yards for a touchdown on Picayune's

third play of the game's opening drive.  The point after was blocked and West Harrison led 6-0 with

10:38 showing on the clock.

Littles gained a piece of redemption on the first snap after the kickoff as he motored through the

Hurricanes for a 68 yard touchdown with 10:20 left.  Jackson Samples kicked the extra point for a

7-6 lead.

Picayune got the ball back quickly as Gage Wilson recovered the first of his 'hat trick' night of fumbles

at the West Harrison 40.  On the third play after the turnover, Skylar Bowman connected with V.J.

Holt for a 30 yard catch and run for a touchdown with  9:01 left.  Samples made it 14-6 with his point

after touchdown.

Wilson got his second snatching of a loose ball giving Picayune the ball at the Hurricane's 40 again.

Litttles, looked like his radio crew given nickname of 'The Little Train' as he broke through the

West Harrison defenders for a 32 yard touchdown on third down.  Samples' kick made it 21-7 with

3:32 left in the first quarter.

After a West Harrison punt, a missed field goal by Picayune, and another West Harrison punt,

Picayune started at their own 20.  The Maroon Tide moved the 80 yards in 6 plays with Trey

Winbrow slashing in from 3 yards out with 6:50 left in the first half to extend the lead to 28-6 after

Samples' point after.

West Harrison's next possession ended deep in Picayune territory when V.J. Holt intercepted a

pass at the goal line.

The Hurricanes got the ball first in the second half, and this drive ended like the prior with another

Holt interception, this time Holt setup the Picayune offense at the West Harrison 36.  Winbrow

scored 4 plays later from 18 yards out, but the point after was wide right and the lead was 34-6.

Picayune's other touchdown's came on a 17 yard pass from Tyler Penton to Blake Merrifield with

2:31 left in the third, a 2 yard run by David Baker with 10:13 left in the game, and  a 1 yard run by

Anicet Vicknair with 1:46 left.  Baker's run was setup by Wilson's third fumble recovery.

West Harrison's other touchdown was an 88 yard kick off return by Aaron Riley after the Penton

to Merrifield touchdown pass.

Littles finished with 205 yards on 17 carries.  Winbrow had 75 yards on 6 rushes.  Bowman completed

4 of 8 passes for 67 yards.

Picayune (3-3, 2-0) will travel to Hattiesburg on Friday.
