Maroon Tide gets late TD to beat Gautier 28-21

Gautier-Picayune closed the first half and then the game with impressive drives for touchdowns in posting a
spine-tingling 28-21 win over the Gautier Gators at Vaughn-Wallace Stadium.
Neither team could convert a field goal on their first possession after both were able to move the ball against
the respective defenses. However, on Gautier's second possesion, the Maroon Tide defense forced a three
and out and when the Gators punted on fourth down, sophomore Brian Taylor blocked the punt setting up
Picayune at the Gautier 31. Just three plays later, junior Josh "Little Train" Littles slashed his way through
the Gator defense for a 19 yard touchdown with 1:06 left in the first quarter. Jackson Samples booted the
extra point for a 7-0 lead.
Gautier tied the game with 6:28 left on a 69 yard run from Deandre Torrey and Josh Penton's point after
made it 7-7.
Picayune answered with a 16 play 80 yard drive using 6:19 off the clock with senior Aaron Hart catching a pass
from junior Skylar Bowman on a perfectly executed play-action pass for the touchdown with :09 left in the half.
Samples put Picayune up 14-7 at the half.
The Picayune offense took the second half kick off and Kevin Reed had a good return to his 29. From there,
the Maroon Tide went 71 yards in 9 plays scoring when Trey Winbrow got in from 16 yards out. On the
run, Winbrow went airborne at the goal line and extended the ball with both hands just inside the left pylon
of the end zone. Samples kicked the extra point for a 21-7 lead with 7:08 left in the third quarter.
Gautier answered with a touchdown run by Keith Mitchell on 4th down and 7 to go at the Picayune 17.
Penton's point after made it 21-14 with 3:41 left in the third quarter.
After and exchange of punts, Torrey returned a punt to the Picayune 18 and then he scored on the
next play with 5:38 left in the game. Penton's extra point tied the game at 21-21.
Picayune's offense responed with a 10 play 80 drive draining four minutes and twenty seconds off the clock
with Littles plunging in from 1 yard out with :58 seconds left. Samples kicked the PAT for a 28-21 lead.
Senior Kevin Reed sealed the win with remarkable one-handed interception at the Gautier 45 yard line
with :18 left.
Littles had 293 yards on 39 carries while Winbrow added 8 rushes for 50 yards.. Bowman had 23 yards
on 5 runs.
Picayune (2-3, 1-0) will host West Harrison on Friday.
