D'Iberville pulls away from Picayune 56-35

Picayune-- D'Iberville used big play after big play on offense and finally pulled away in the fourth

quarter to defeat Picayune 56-35 on Riser Medical Associates Field at Tide Stadium on the

debut of the Tide Turf.

Picayune was forced to punt on their first possession of the game and D'Iberville scored on their

first play on a 46 yard pass from Jacquelle Green to John Colllins with 9:41 left in the first quarter.

Cory Ladner kicked the first of his eight point after touchdown conversion of the night for a 7-0

Warrior lead. 

Picayune's next possession ended on a fourth down sack at the Warrior 41.  Picayune's defense

stiffened and forced a punt with the Maroon Tide getting the ball back at their 24.  On the second

play, junior Josh Littles scampered 69 yards for a touchdown on the last play of the first quarter

and Jackson Samples kicked the extra point to tie the game at 7-7.

D'Iberville scored on the first play after the kickoff on a 74 yard run by Green and Ladner's point

after made it 14-7 with 11:40 to go in the half.

The Maroon Tide answered with a 10 play 65 yard drive with junior Blake Merrifield scoring on a

19 yard run right up the middle with 6:20 left.  Samples tied the game at 14-14 with his point after.

On the Warriors' next possession, Picayune's Louis Graham caused a fumble and Frederick

Gray pounced on the ball at the D'Iberville 36.   On fourth down and four yards to go, junior

quarterback hit senior wide receiver Kevin Reed on a quick slant and Reed scored from 30 yards

out and Samples extra point put the Maroon Tide up 21-14.

The Warriors responded quickly with a 67 yard pass from Green to Collins with 1:17 left in the half

to tie the game at 21-21 after Ladner's extra point.

D'Iberville scored on the initial possession of the third quarter with Green sprinting in from 55

yards out for a 28-21 lead with 9:59 left in the third quarter.

Picayune responded with a 11 play 67 yard drive with Trey Winbrow slicing in from 5 yards with

4:08 left in the third quarter.  Samples once again kicked the point after to tie the game 28-28.

Green put the Warriors back on top just 3 plays later on a 43 yard touchdown pass to D.J. Polk

with 2:40 left.  Ladner's point after made it 35-28.

Picayune came right back and Littles scored on the first play of the fourth quarter on a 46 yard

run with 11:52 showing on the clock.  Samples converted the point after to tie the game at 35-35.

Just two plays later, Green put D'Iberville back in front with a  57 yard pass to Polk with 10:52 left

to take a 42-35 lead.

Picayune's next possession ended on a fumble at the D'Iberville 25 with 8:49 left in the game.

D'Iberville once again scored quickly on a 69 yard run by Green with 7:56 left in the game to

push the lead to 49-35 after Ladner's extra point.

Picayune's next possession ended at their own 26 when the Maroon Tide came up short on

a fourth down run.

D'Iberville's Collins scored the last touchdown on a 21 yard run with 2:58 left.

Green ran 8 times for 206 yards and completed 9 of 12 passess for 265 yards.

Littles had 322 yards on 44 rushes.  Winbrow had 69 yards on 6 rushes.  Merrifield ran for

19 yards on 3 carries. V.J. Holt had 5 rushes for 21 yards.   Bowman completed  both of

his passes for 38 yards of passing.

Picayune travels to St Martin next week.
