Maroon Tide stomps McComb 34-6

by Carey Meitzler

McComb-- The start of the Picayune / McComb Region 3-5A game was delayed for 1 hour and 26 minutes due to a driving

rain storm that pushed through the McComb area around 7:00pm. When the game finally got underway at 8:56pm, the Maroon

Tide stomped their way through the muddy field conditions at C.C. Moore Stadium to claim a 34-6 win over the Tigers.

McComb's first possesion ended when the Maroon Tide's Troy Egana jumped on a Tiger fumble at the McComb 48.  Four

plays later,  Jamal Hall raced 40 yards for a touchdown to make it 6-0 with 9:07 left.  The point after was wide left.

The stingy Maroon Tide defense produced another turnover on the next Tiger possession on Wayne McMooain's interception

at the Tide 27 yard line that he returned up to his own 46.  On first down, Hall weaved his way down the left sideline to the

Tiger 10.  After Hall was tackled for a two yard loss on the next play, Joel Davis took the handoff and busted loose up the

middle of the line for a 12 yard touchdown with 6:57 left.  Once again, the attempt for the point after was no good and

Picayune led 12-0.

McComb responded on their next possession with 8 play 73 yard drive that was capped off on a 1 yard run by Lamarian Ashley

with 2:53 left in the first quarter.  The point after was no good.

Picayune closed out the first half scoring on a 17 yard run by Hall wiht 9:03 left in the second quarter.  Hall tacked on the two

point conversion for a 20-6 lead.

Picayune put the game out of reach by taking the second half kickoff and marching 66 yard in 7 plays in 3:22.  Hall ran in from

7 yards out with 8:34 left in the quarter to make it 27-6 after Dalton O'Meara's point after was good.

The final score for the Maroon Tide came on sophomore Scotty Merrill's 4 yard run with 6:59 left in the game.  O'Meara

kicked the extra point.

Hall rushed for 161 yards on 19 carries.  Chris Burton added 4 totes for 44 yards while Joel Davis had 20 yards on 5 rushes.
