Warriors stop Maroon Tide 35-21

Oak Grove--The Picayune Maroon Tide got off to a fast start, but in the end it was the home standing Oak Grove

Warriors' night as they scored 28 unanswered points to win 35-21 in front of 5,000 plus.

 

Picayune took the opening kickoff and marched down the field getting a 5 yard run from T'Darryl Grays for the

touchdown with 7:22 left. Nick Riso kicked the extra point for a7-0 lead.

 

After an exchange of punts, Oak Grove tied the game at 7-7 on Jay Hughes' 4 yard run with :26 left in the quarter.

Dylan Sobiesk converted the extra point.

 

Wayne McMooain returned the ensuing kick off to the Oak Grove 46. After gaining three yards on first down,

sophomore Jamal Hall scored from 43 yards out by avoiding several Warrior tacklers as he weaved his way

from left to right across the field on the first play of the second quarter. Riso's point after made it 14-7 with 11:48

left.

 

Oak Grove drove to the Picayune 18 on their next possession, but fumbled the ball and Cedric Brown pounced

on the loose ball at the Tide 9. Picayune was unable to move the ball and punted it back to the Warriors.

 

Starting at the Tide 42, James McMahon ran and pass the Warriors down the field in seven plays with the

touchdown coming on McMahon's 4 yard run. Sobiesk kicked the point after to tie the game at 14-14 with 3:45

left.

 

Picayune was unable to move the ball and punted it back to Oak Grove at the Warrior 37.

It only took McMahon three plays to give the Warriors their first lead. After pass completions of 13 and 49 yards,

Hughes scored from 1 yard out with :57 left and Sobiesk point after made it 21-14.

 

The Warriors scored on their first two possessions of the second half. The first was a 5 play 65 yard drive that

resulted in a 30 yard run by Hughes with 10:45 left.

 

After a Tide three and out, Oak Grove started at their 23 yard line after the Tide punt. McMahon connected

on a 55 yard touchdown pass to Robert Johnson to cap off the 6 play 77 yard drive with 5:59 left. Sobiesk's

extra point made it 35-14.

 

Picayune regained some life on their next possession as abandoned the run game and went to the spread

offense. JuniorJacob Kennedy moved his team down the field 49 yards in 7 plays getting a 19 yard touchdown

pass to Reginald Bailey with 3:49 left in the third quarter. Riso converted the point after to make the score 35-21.

 

Both teams would turn the ball over on their next possession before they began to exchange punts for until

Picayune moved the ball from their own 20 to the Warrior 31 late in the game, but Picayune turned the ball

over on downs.

 

Hall led Picayune with 116 yards on 18 carries. Kennedy completed 14 of 26 passes for 112 yards.

McMahon was a dual threat for Oak Grove rushing for 56 yards and completing 17 of 29 attempts for 271 yards.

Hughes finished with 16 rushes for 126 yards.

 

Next up, Picayune (2-1) will be at home facing Pascagoula for a 7:30pm kickoff.
