Maroon Tide cruises past PRC 42-21
by Carey Meitzler
The Maroon Tide wasted little time in asserting themselves against arch rival Pearl River Central as they scored two touchdowns
in the first 3:30 of the game on just five offensive plays and cruised to a 42-21 victory. The win, before a standing room only
crowd of nearly 4,000 at Picayune Stadium, move the Tide's record to 5-0 overall and more importantly 2-0 in Division 8-4A
while the Blue Devils fell to 2-3 and 0-1.
On the first play from scrimmage, junior tailback Albert Richard raced 70 yards to the PRC 10. Junior Drew Cole came in and
ran for five yards on consecutive plays, the later for a touchdown. Irving Gonzalez booted the point after for a 7-0 lead with
10:47 on the clock.

PRC got on the scoreboard early in the second quarter on a 94 yard run by Warren House. The PAT was wide
right and Picayune lead 14-6 with 10:13 on the second quarter clock.
Picayune was penalized for holding on the return of the ensuing kickoff and started their possession at their own
9 yard line. But the Tide didn't seemed to be phased with the bad field position as they drove 91 yards on 12 plays
and milked six minutes and forty five seconds off the clock with Richard punching it in from 2 yards out for the
touchdown. Gonzalez's PAT made it 21-6 with 3:20 left in the half.
PRC scored on their next possession when Ram Miller ran untouched for a 79 yard touchdown and added a 2
point conversion to pull PRC to within 21-14 with 2:27 left.
After the Blue Devil kickoff, Picayune took over at their own 37 yard line and drove the 63 yards in 7 plays with
the touchdown coming on a 6 yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Micah Hickman to senior fullback
Dale Meitzler with :23 left. Gonzalez's kicked the extra point for a 28-14 half time lead.

loose and senior Chance Griffith pounced on it at the PRC 23. Four plays later, Richard scored his third
touchdown of the night with a 7 yard run and Gonzalez added the PAT for a 35-14 lead with 10:40 to
play in the third quarter.
After the ensuing kickoff, the Maroon Tide defense forced PRC to punt and Picayune took over at their
own 28 yard line. The Tide drove 72 yards in 6 plays with Hickman passing to senior fullback Kelvis
Bowens for a 12 yard touchdown with 5:18 left. Gonzalez booted the point after for a 42-14 lead.
Ram Miller added another touchdown on a 63 yard run and Adam Herrin kicked the PAT to make the

Miller paced PRC with 226 yards on 19 carries and 2 TDs. House had 8 rushes for 104 yards,
