Friday, January 23rd:

Boys: Picayune  4  Gulfport 3   (contributed by Bill Hillery)

The Picayune Maroon Tide closed out the season with a win over the 8th ranked Gulfport Admirals.

Joe Burrage started the scoring early in the game when he re-directed a Britton Fortenberry corner kick into the back of the Admiral's net.  Gulfport answered right back and after 40 minutes they went to the half tied, 1-1.  Senior Lorenzo Woods got the second half started, when he took a long pass from Britton Fortenberry and beat the Admiral keeper one on one.  Mitchell Jacobs scored the next goal when he one timed a Chad Detillier cross.  Gulfport scored next trying to stay in the game making the score 3-2, but Juan Barajas scored with his head on a cross from Lorenzo Woods.  Gulfport got a late goal but couldn't get the equalizer as time ran out.

Coach Steve Jacobs is very proud of the way his team performed this year, "While our record is 7-6-2,

I purposely chose a difficult schedule this year and I think the team performed very well."

With only 3 seniors on the team this team looks to be even better next year.

Girls: Gulfport 3  Picayune 0

The Lady Tide finished their season with a 3-0 loss to the Lady Admirals. The Ladies have no seniors and with several Junior High players seeing action, this young team will be around for several more years.

Tuesday, January 20th:

Boys: Hattiesburg 3  Picayune 1    (contributed by Bill Hillery)

Picayune's chances to make the playoffs were dashed in a 3-1 defeat to Hattiesburg at Tide Stadium Tuesday night. The teams went to the half tied 1-1 but Hattiesburg's speed up front was too much for the Tide's defense in the second half. Scott Hillery scored Picayune's only goal on a long pass from Joe Burrage.
The Lady Tide lost to Hattiesburg 8-0.
The Tide and Lady Tide play their final game of the season at home Friday night against Gulfport.

Action begins with the ladies at 5:30.
